There is nothing nicer than a scoop of ice cream when it's 40 degrees outside to help your body cool down, right? Well, actually, wrong!
Although most people believe ice cream is supposed to chill the body it does the exact opposite. It makes the body warm. Why? Simple: ice cream
has a lot of calories and calorie is the unit scientist use to measure energy. Because heat is produced by energy, when you eat ice cream your
body's temperature rises.
The same sort of misunderstanding happens with wool clothes. In places like Egypt, where the weather is extremely hot, people usually wear wool
dresses to cross the desert. You might think they are just insane but they aren't. What happens is their clothes made of wool actually keep the
body's temperature very pleasant.
Our temperature is normally around 36 to 37 Celsius degrees, when we wear anything made of wool our bodies don't exchange heat with the environment.
However, the type of wool-fabric used to make the clothes for the Arabic people is different from the kind used on our winter clothes. So don't go wearing your cardigans in December!
